On 20 April Haris Vejzovic went to work with a little more spring in his step than before. After completing a course in steel construction design he has new certified knowledge, and feels better understanding of how dimensioning of steel structures works.

The idea is to strengthen the company's expertise in steel construction and be able to offer customers extra security in every delivery.

Thorough skills in steel construction

The training is six days. Experts in various areas lectured and gave participants compulsory homework assignments on project management, calculation and theory. The purpose is to give designers thorough skills in everything from design with quality assurance to the structural system's mode of action. Course participants work a great deal on understanding where instability phenomena can arise and how they can be managed.

"It has given me a better fundamental understanding of why we do what we do, and how important communication is between different parties in design."

Opportunity to learn from others

But the most important thing according to Haris, was the opportunity to meet other designers and exchange experiences.

"Many work with roughly the same things as us, but use completely different methods. A training like this gives us the opportunity to learn from others and further develop our processes."

Quality assurance while waiting for requirements

There is currently no requirement to have this kind of training in Sweden, but in many European countries certification is required. While waiting for requirements to be introduced in Sweden, SBI carries out this training to quality-assure the country's designers.
