New team member with unique expertise

It is virtually impossible not to like Dan Fjällman.

He slips in a little cautiously, smiles broadly with his whole body while his curious eyes take in everything around him. The voice is thin at first, but as soon as the word "structural mechanics" comes up it becomes strong and clear.

Dan grew up in Sillerud outside Årjäng. A rural area where the moped is the key to freedom.

Perhaps that is where the first seeds were sown for Dan's interest in technology.

"I was one of the few in my class at secondary school who found structural mechanics and formula books fun," says Dan.

Fascinated by space rockets

In recent times he has become interested in SpaceX rocket launches.

"It's the most amazing thing humanity is doing right now. I have no ambition to calculate on rockets or space travel, but with my background I can appreciate the incredible technology behind it," says Dan, beaming.

"It's fascinating that SpaceX thinks so big. They dare to commit and move so fast forward. It's far from my everyday world, where customers have a more cautious slow development, always with safety margins."

Construction and calculation

After his engineering degree from Karlstad University in 1995 Dan first works as a designer at Wermtec, Timatec and Etteplan. The customers are primarily companies that manufacture paper machines, such as Valmet and Andritz.

Around 2010 he gets to start working more with calculation. His colleagues support him and he discovers that the combination of construction and calculation gives him a holistic perspective that customers appreciate and ask for.

"It's fun and strengthens confidence. I also find it an interesting challenge that there are always economic limitations in every project. You could build as optimally as you like, but since there is always a wallet governing things you have to adapt the construction accordingly."

Strengthening machine construction and structural calculations

Now Dan has started working at POJI with both construction and calculation. With his unique experience he will help us become even better at machine construction and structural calculations.
